OVERTURE TO THE BARBER OF SEVILLE – Gioachino Rossini

Instrumentation:  2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, timpani, percussion, and strings
Duration: About 8 mins
Program Notes: The Barber of Seville is surely one of the most popular operas in the repertory – it ranks fifth on Opera America’s list of the 20 most performed operas in North America. Further, it is a favorite with musicians and singers – its wit, timing and invention have been admired by composers from Beethoven to Richard Strauss. And its overture appears regularly on concert programs, and along with the aria “Largo al factotum” has been parodied in animated cartoons starring Woody Woodpecker, Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and Tom and Jerry.

Christ Trinity Church presents the first concert of the 2023 Lich Gate Concerts Series, on Sunday, January 29 at 2pm, celebrating the 226th birthday of Franz Schubert, and YOU ARE INVITED!

Lich Gate Concerts presents A Sheffield Schubertiade, an afternoon of fine music-making in the acoustically superb First Congregational Church of Sheffield. Experience first-hand what an afternoon Hausmusik Konzert, or House music concert, was like in Schubert's Vienna. You, too, can be a “Schubertian!”

He has invited our dear New York-based musician friends Sarah Hewitt-Roth, cello & Adrienne Kim, piano; and our new friends Jean Schneider, piano, & Enrico Lagasca, bass-baritone, to join him.

On June 19th, I have been selected to play to honor the health workers in New York City hospitals, in a live hour-long concert that will be available to all my friends on Facebook Live. This project is a collaboration between the City of New York and my musicians' union, Local 802. About forty or so musicians were chosen to perform noontime concerts during May and June of this year.

I will be playing a mixture of classical music, Americana, and pop songs.It would be my pleasure to share this music with you as well. If you are interested in joining us, here's the information.

Bach’s Sonata in A major, Schubert’s Sonata in A major for Violin and Piano, Op. 162, and Fauré’s expressive Violin Sonata No. 1 in A major.
